Tomo Mori’s fiber art installation, originally conceived in 2020 and further developed at the Carnival, celebrates human collaboration.

Mori depicts the female pelvis, emphasizing the act of childbirth, which requires communal care and assistance. The pelvis becomes a visual metaphor for the artistic community at the Carnival, where she has found a nurturing environment among peers who provide mutual support and inspire her creative practice.

The ropes used in the installation are crafted from fabrics donated by neighbors and friends, further establishing the work’s themes of sharing and human connection. Unbeknownst to Mori at the outset, her grandmother’s birth family operated a rope-making business—an unexpected connection that brings her creative journey full circle, weaving together personal and collective histories of collaboration.
