Sin Autorización: Artist Panel Discussion

A moderated discussion with Sin Autorización exhibition artists Leandro Feal, Celia Gonzalez, Camila Lobón and Lester Álvarez Meno and co-curators Abel González Fernández and Gwen A. Unger. 

The panel explores what it is like for artists to work and practice in Havana, Cuba, and how they navigate a government controlled art scene. The school system for fine arts in Havana, and how that leads to establishing a career, as well as how artists work through public, institutional spaces and private, independent spaces is discussed. The artists also reflect on their experiences over the course of their careers and how the changes in recent years have affected their artistic practice, and ultimately their very lives. 

This program was organized in conjunction with the exhibition Sin Autorización: Contemporary Cuban Art, on view at the Wallach Art Gallery October 21 through January 15, 2023.
