Fritz Koenig’s Great Caryatid Sphere N.Y. (1971) was one of the earliest memorials of 9/11 after it emerged from the rubble of the collapsed Twin Towers. In this talk, exhibition curator Holger A. Klein traces the history of the work in the context of its placement in the World Trade Center Plaza and in relation to Koenig’s career and his memorial commissions in post-war Germany.
