The Protest and The Recuperation

Betti-Sue Hertz and Sreshta Rit Premnath, Editors

What can be said for the radical aesthetics and the performativity, whether visual or gestural, that have become central to the many progressive protests in recent years?  The Protest and The Recuperation ponders that question with a survey of artistic perspectives on, and responses to, global protests that have taken place during the past decade from the Arab Spring through Covid-19, as well as the recuperative strategies of resistance.

ABOUT THE DESIGN

The Wallach Art Gallery was pleased to collaborate with designers at Wkshps for the design of this publication and related exhibition graphics.

Wkshps is a multidisciplinary design studio that seeds and shapes graphic identities. With decades of practice and a diversity of perspectives, Wkshps launches and guides dynamic identities for organizations of all scales.

This keynote talk by the design firm's co-founder Prem Krishnamurthy intersects with the gallery's interests and approaches to exhibitions. Titled "On Bumpiness in Letters"  the talk explores how typographic irregularity and aesthetic friction can work towards complexity and comprehension beyond consumption.
