A Curator’s Perspective with Betti-Sue Hertz

In this overview of The Protest and The Recuperation, curator Betti-Sue Hertz shares insights on the global art in the exhibition and its alignment with mass protest in the decade between the Arab Spring uprising and the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as recuperative strategies of resistance.

Betti-Sue Hertz is director and chief curator of The Wallach Art Gallery. Her most recent exhibition is The Protest and The Recuperation on view now at the Wallach through August 14. Trained as an artist and an art historian, she is committed to the ideals of freedom of expression and the liberatory potential of the convergence of art and politics. Her curatorial and scholarly work focuses on the intersection of critical visual culture, transnational exchange, and socially relevant issues.
