Artist Bayeté Ross Smith leads the first of two virtual discussions about the global presentation of his project Got the Power: Boomboxes. In collaboration with local residents, this ongoing project creates community portraits through music and oral histories that are given physical form as sculpted boom boxes that honor the boom box as a symbol of pride, power, and autonomy. Over the course of the summer, the artist will be joined by Got the Power participants from Colombia, Ethiopia, and Montgomery, Alabama.
Bayeté Ross Smith is a multidisciplinary artist, photographer, filmmaker, and education worker, working at the intersection of photography, film & video, visual journalism, 3D objects, and new media.
