I like that cement is a material that's perceived to be permanent but in reality it's quite fragile and temporal in nature... underneath these paintings there's an underpainting, and over time the cement will start to fall off and reveal parts of the underpainting. So this process, to me, of the cement coming off of the paintings kind of mimics the process of decay, but also the process of excavation and bringing what's been hidden or erased from the background to the foreground…
